Buying guide
Choosing the right carpet is one of the most effective ways to add warmth, comfort and character to your home. With so many styles, materials and pile types available, it can feel overwhelming — here's what to weigh up before you buy.
The construction of a carpet's surface is known as its pile. Whether the loops of yarn are cut or left intact determines both how the carpet looks and how it performs in high-traffic areas.
The fibre used in a carpet dictates its durability, softness and stain resistance.
High footfall areas need durable, tightly constructed options such as a dense twist pile or a heavy-duty wool blend.
Balance comfort and durability with a quality twist or loop pile carpet.
Lower traffic means you can prioritise luxury and softness — a deep Saxony or plush velvet carpet.
Accurate measuring prevents waste and ensures a seamless finish, particularly around doors, alcoves and stairs. Professional fitting makes sure the carpet is properly stretched and secured, which prevents ripples and premature wear over time.
If you live in Wrexham, Cefn Mawr, Rhosymedre, Chirk, Llangollen or Ruabon, we can come out with samples, take precise measurements and fit your chosen flooring properly.
A dense twist pile or a heavy-duty wool blend is usually the most durable choice for stairs, because the tightly twisted yarns resist flattening in the highest footfall part of the house.
New underlay is strongly recommended. It absorbs impact, adds comfort and insulation and helps the carpet wear evenly. Re-using tired underlay can cause uneven wear and may void carpet warranties.
Many polypropylene carpets can be cleaned with a diluted bleach solution, which is why they suit family homes, children's bedrooms and dining spaces. Always check the manufacturer's guidance for the specific carpet.
Twist pile uses tightly twisted yarns for a textured, hardwearing surface that suits stairs and hallways. Saxony has a longer, softer cut pile that feels deeper and more luxurious, which makes it better suited to bedrooms and quiet sitting rooms.
